Add Life to Your Lawn and Garden by Planting Roses

After looking at your lawn and garden, you somehow feel that it can use a new look. Yes your plants are still doing well. Your grass is as well- maintained and green as before but for some reason, it seems like it is lacking some color and perhaps some life. You start considering lawn ornaments but those do not seem enough to brighten your garden. So now, you are left with one question, what exactly can you put in your garden to give it the extra flair it seems to desperately need?

Here is a suggestion: plant different varieties of roses in your lawn and garden. This is just one of my spring lawn tips.

To some people who does not take gardening seriously, that idea can seem ridiculous. Roses are pretty and colorful yes, but they are also notorious. They are known for being hard to care for and deal with. But that is not entirely true. Roses are just like any other plants. For you to take care of them properly, you would just have to get to know them thoroughly.

Now if you are up to the challenge of rearing roses in your garden, here are some of the facts that you may need to know about them.

Roses have a lot of varieties, among the most common are:

  • Gallic rose – a shrub variety that bears flowers with single layered petals
  • Damask rose – variety that is commonly used for flavoring food and in the production of rose oil
  • China rose – has 3 – 5 layers of petals and grow from 1 – 2 meters tall
  • Hybrid tea rose – most popular variety that is defined with 5 or more layers of petals with flowers that are supported by long and upright stems.

Roses in general thrive where they get a lot of sun. So before you even consider on rearing them, make sure that your garden gets at least 3 – 5 hours of direct sunlight everyday.

They also do not like to be drowned or wet all the time. So when planting them make sure that your soil has good drainage.

Some gardeners would refer to roses as hungry plants. And to you this means one thing – fertilize, fertilize and fertilize at least once a week. Make sure that you avoid fertilizer burn though by putting out too much.

To promote growth you may need to prune them and deadhead them as you deem necessary.

Finally, aphids and rust are 2 of the roses’ notorious nemesis. The key on fighting them is by checking your plant every once in a while. If you see any traces of aphids, get rid of them by spraying them with pesticide or a homemade concoction composed of 1 part liquid soap, 1 part oil and 3 parts water.

Again, those are the preliminary facts that you have to know about roses in general. Keeping these in mind will help you keep the most beautiful rose plants in your lawn and garden.
