Protect Your Patio Set
Patio sets are designed to withstand the elements of nature but it does them no harm and a great deal of good to look after them properly. If you neglect your garden furniture it will deteriorate much faster than it otherwise would and it will look old before its time.
So, how do you take care of your outdoor furniture?
1. Keep It Clean
By keeping your patio set clean you will not only help it look good but also protect it from any pollution which might stick to the surface. You don’t need anything complication to clean your furniture. A bucket of soapy water will do and a soft scrubbing brush. Simply get all the surface dirt off the furniture, rinse it and leave it to dry in the fresh air. You also don’t need to do this process every week. Every couple of months or even once a season may be fine to keep it looking in tip top condition.
2. Feed or Paint It
It is generally the surface of the furniture which deteriorates so be sure to protect it. You can protect hardwood furniture such as teak with a regular application of teak oil. Softwood furniture, like pine, benefits from a fresh coat of varnish or paint once a year and you will need to repaint metal furniture every year too to prevent rust.
3. Cover or Store It
One of the best things you can do to protect patio sets is to keep them out of the worst of the weather. Now, it may be that you have a climate where you sit out in your garden all year round and if that is the case, this does not apply to you as the weather is fine enough to keep your garden furniture out all year. But if you have a proper winter in your location then you definitely want to store your furniture indoors out of season or at least use a furniture cover if you have no indoor storage facilities.
